October Is Cyber Security Awareness Month

Did you know that an estimated 1.5 million people are victims of Cyber Crime every single day? Were you aware that about 91% of all passwords can be found in a list of just 1,000 passwords? Or that 40% of all passwords can be found in a list of just 100 password?

 

In a world where a single password grants access to so much sensitive information, how do we deal with the fact that 65% of people have written that password down?

 

That's what this month is all about. October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. How can you help improve the Cyber Security of your company? Below are a few free resources that might get you headed in the right direction:

  • This NCSAM Resource Kit has a large listing of resources you can utilize. For our Higher Education folks, it includes a list of what other Universities are doing for CSAM this year.
  • The Department of Homeland Security has some resources posted, along with a schedule for the month with each week dedicated to a different form of cyber security.
  • Staysafeonline.com has a large amount of resources including posters, event calendars, infographics, statistics, and more.  
  •  At stopthinkconnect.org there is general information and videos about being safe online year round.

Additionally, since Facebook is a common hunting ground for unsuspecting internet users, here are a few Facebook pages dedicated to Cyber Security:
